THE MASTERTON SEAT.
It.ia a little early, perhaps, to speculate upon the probabilities of the future in regard to the Masterton seat. We have the authority of Mr A. W. Hogg, however, for stating that he will ''probably" be a and that he will support neither Mr Massey nor Sir Joseph Ward. At the last election he showed sympathy with Sir Joseph, and this cost him his seat. The question arises whether the Opposition, of which Sir Joseph Ward is now* the accepted leader, will run a candidate against Mr Hogg and Mr Sykes. This moy not be determined until it is ascertained what amendments are to be made in the electoral laws. In the meantime, it may be regarded m oertain that we shall he in the throes of a vigorous election contest at this time next year.
