PAYMENT OF MEMBERS.

(By Telearavh. —Press Association.? ASHBURTON, Last Night. A member of Parliament, speaking to a Guardian representatige, stated that the Government seemingly intended exercising its right under the Legislature Act with regard to members' salaries. Under this Act the Government has the right to deduet £2 per day for every day a member is absent without leave, "and in the ease of at least two members who had exceeded' this period, having been on visits to the Old Country, the rule had been applied. In one ease, that of a prominent member of the Opposition, the deduction of £2 per day would come to a larger amount than the payment for the period the member was present, and thus ho would be brought in debt to the Treasury.
