Times' —'Sydney Sun' Special Gables (Received Oct. 7, 8.30 a.m.) NEW YORK, Oct. 6.

Mr Roosevelt, accompanied by his wife and son Hermit arid six .scientists, has departed on a tour of the South American States. He will deliver lectures at universities there, and subsequently lead an expedition on behalf of the American Museum of Natural History. The expedition will thoroughly explore the River Paraguay, and return to the United States in the spring of 1914.

[The river Paraguay, is, properly, the upper portion of the Parana. It rises in the tableland of Western Brazil, and flows successively through Brazil, between Brazil and Bolivia, through Northern Paraguay, separating the Paraguayan Chaco from the main portion, and finally between Paraguay and the Argentine Republics. In Brazil it is bordered by the vast swampy region called Charaes Marshes. The length of the river Is about 1500 miles (with the Lower Parana and Plata, 2580 miles), and is navigable to Villa Maria, 300 miles from its source.]
