AMERICANS AS EXPORTERS

The London Chambers of Commerce have agreed' to issue .certificates to facilitate the admission of goods in accordance with the American Tariff. The Hon. T. Mackenzie, High Commissioner for New Zealand, in an" interview, said that when the Americans entered the foreign field as exporter® of manufactured products, their competition would cause England and the Continent to wake up to a degree not yet realised. The Standard newspaper, of New York, (states that the Supreme Court will probably be compelled to interpret the rebate clause, the wording of which is obscure.
The five per centum rebate provided by the Underwood law on goods imported in American/ bottoms, is causing a commotion, Tt establishes something tantamount to a conventional rate, from which the British Dominions, Russia, some of the South American countries and-pos-sibly Germany will "be excluded. It is estimated that the rebates will cost the United States trouble enough to make, the Supreme Court suits practically certain. , Senator Underwood states that it will be several years-'before the effects of the tariff are felt in lowered prices.
