CAPTAIN SEDDON.
The announcement that Captain R. Seddon is from the Defence Force to take up a private position in the Dominion is only of importance in the bearing that it has upon the system of training officers. So far as Captain Seddon Kiinself is concerned, the service will probably net suffer by his retirement. But it must be remembered that officers who are sent to England to be trained at the Dominion's expense owe a debt to the country which they are morally bound to pay. They should be prepared to serve in the Def&nce Forces for at' least fire years after their return. In view of what is apparently happening in the case of Captain Seddon, the Government should require a bond from other officers who are sent into training that they will serve in the forces for a fixed period after they have received their military education. The country cannot afford to pay young men to go on ,a holiday to England for the good' of their health or their pockets.
