SALVAGE PREPARATIONS. (By Tetegravh—Prm Association.) DUNEDIN, Last Night. ASitiff norther]v <=nrano- -"" this r j- -■■-•' ■"«■—« •♦f *-'* morning and hiMe continuance of the preliminary operations!. IU connection■ with the attempt to refloat tM Tyrone practically impossible. The tllg Plucky left Port Chalmers in the morning towing a punt, on which had been placed a 16-h.p. boiler and some other gear, hut it was deemed inadvisable to proceed outside the heads, and the punt was accordingly moored at Harrington Point, and the tug return to Port Chalmers. It is hoped" the weather "will have sufficiently moderated by to-morrow to enable operations to be gone on with. The Maitai is arriving to-morrow morning, and is bringing a quantity ol . ««l. v »g« gear, and the Tera■whiti is expected to-night or early iin the morning. The Harbour Board tug Toputai, with several members of the board and other interested gentlemen, went out to the scene of the disaster to-day. The vessel presented rather a desolate appearance, but was as firm as a rock, aud seemed to be down at the bows, or else resting on something very solid at the stern. The waves were washing np against her side and throwing spray on to the decks forward, but she stood immovable. The salvage party seems to Rave a pretty stiff problem confronting it, but until the diver has completed his survey, there can be nothing more than conjecture as to the. extent- oftfte vessel's injuries.
