WORLD-WIDE CONGRATULATIONS.
(Received October 1, 11 a.m.) LONDON, Sept. 30. Field-Marshal Lord Roberts received hundreds of world-wide birthday congratulations. In a stirring message to the nation, he says:—"lf thejl were my last words, I would say to the young men 'Arm yourselves.' Especially would I address myself to artisans who have been urged to-refuse to perform military duties in war time! You will not extend your rights by shirking your duties. You are TR& capital, the life, the wealth of iJEe nation, and the easiest way of bettering&yourselves is to make Britain better. Assert your rights by defending your honour as Britishers, and.your literties as citizens of the Empire." [Lord Roberts was born at Cawnpore, India, on 30th September, 1832.]
