Miss Tate, who has been visiting Mrs R. C. Fowler;, of Mangamahoe, returns to Greytown to-morrow.

Mrs Spencer Beard, who at present is the guest of Mrs E. Chalmers, leaves for the South Island on Wednesday.

Miss McKnight has returned to her home after spending several weeks with friends in Mastertori.

Mrs Bethel, of "Pahau Pastures," Culverden, Soiuth. Island, has come up to bo present at the wedding of her sister, Miss Beetham, which takes place this afternoon.

Miss Christie, of Wanganui, is the guest of Mrs H. H. Beetham, "Brancepeth."

Miss Wardell is spending a few days with Mrs W. W. Wardell, Te Whiti.

A very successful plain and fancy dress ball was the Langdale <Hall, on ; September 26th, prizes- were for >the prettiestland , meat original .costumes. ; The Misses ;iMorfison &c#ed 'ifs judges,. and .feeir decisions gave/, general satisfaction. The prizewinners were: —For most original costumes:, Girls over 12, Eileen Cripps (Captive); girls under] 12, Ivy Maxwell (Forget-me-not); boys over 12, Ivan Cripps (Golliwog); boys tinder 12, George Street (Cook). For the prettiest costumes: "Girls over 12, Annie Bchofield (Folly); girls Tinder 12, Ella,.Schpfield (Carnival); hoys over, 12, Leslie Brown ; boys under 12, .Rupert Bannister (Jockey). Special prizes were also awarded to Morjorie Carmen (Fairy), Doris Stred (Poppy), Ella Deadman (Queen 1 of Hearts), and Ivy Oliver .(Crimson Rambler). During the evening Mr Atack, on behalf of the members -of the class, presented Mr Carmen with a pair of bijliard 'cues as a slight token of appreciation for kindness in conducting the classes during the winter.
