Interesting experiments have been made'jat Dumfries with the object of increasing plant growth, by means of mercury-Vapour lamps, also by mixing radioactive material with the soil. Carrots influenced by ultra-violet rays germinated in eleven instead of twen-ty-six days, and maize in eight, instead of fifty-seven days. Strawberries increased their bearing by 25 per centum under treatment, and flowers gave increased foliage and bloom.
