MEANS OF INCREASING IT. 'Times'—'Sydney Sun' Special Cables. (Received Sept. 26, 8.30 a.m.) LONDON, Sept. 25. Interesting experiments have been made'jat Dumfries with the object of increasing plant growth, by means of mercury-Vapour lamps, also by mixing radioactive material with the soil. Carrots influenced by ultra-violet rays germinated in eleven instead of twen-ty-six days, and maize in eight, instead of fifty-seven days. Strawberries increased their bearing by 25 per centum under treatment, and flowers gave increased foliage and bloom.
