A SHAMELESS OPPOSITION.

In order to cover up the confusion and shame that has befallen itself in respect to the reckless and extravagant aharges iaade against the Minister of Education over the appointment of Mr ■■ Boyd Garlick, 'the Opposition has resorted to the most glaring artifice, the most transparent, exaggeration, the most wanton hypocrisy, and the most unscrupulous humbug. The ireport -of the committee was an unanimous and complete vindication of fiie Minister of the more serious charges made against him. And the Opposition, instead of making the honourable amende, has proceeded to magnify the failure of the Minister to invite applications for the position of Physical Instructor into one" of the most heinous offences ever committed in the annals of the country; ; With'such-shameless effrontery the people will have no patience. We have only to look back upon the history of lihe discredited "JAbetah" to find instance after instance of appointments being made without competition. When a man was wanted, as Inspector of Fire Brigades If this Dominion, were applications called for the position? Most assuredly not., When men were required to edit the Journal" and "Agricultural Journal" were' applications called from the-, journalists of the Dominion? Emphatically no! When a Government Printer was required at a salary or £7OO or £BOO a year, did the "Liberal" Government call for applications for the position? Certainly not. ; When the Tourist Department was formed, did the Government call applications for the office of manager ? t Assuredly not. Can the "Liberalsj' supply us with details of one position in the service of jaw* State for which they ? when in office, called for applications? We challenge them to, do so. And yet these political humbugs have the assurance, the audacity to assail the Government for having appointed Mr Royd Garlick to, a position, which he is admittedly well qualified to fill.
