PERSONAL.

Mr J. C. Cooper, managing director of the Wellington Farmers' Meat Company, leaves Masterton on a business visit to Auckland to-morrow.

Mr F. H. Bakewell, M.A., Inspector of Schools, was a visitor to Masterton on Saturday. Mr M. Laracy, secretary of the Shearers' Association, arrived in Masterton by the mid-day train on Saturday. Inspector A. B. Charters, of the Wellington Education Board, visited the schools in the Martinborough district last week.

Mr T. McMullen, who has resided in the Pahiatua district for a number of years, is leaving shortly for the King Country, where he" has secured a large block of land.

iMr George Gregory, who has disposed of his property at Konini, was entertained by the settlers of that district at a smoke concert a few evenings back. Mr J. de V. Howard, accountant at the Pahiatua branch of the Bank of New Zealand, has returned from a visit to Australia.

A London cable states' that Lady Ward and Miss Eileen Ward have sailed for New Zealand by the Medina.

His Excellency the Governor and Lady Liverpool returned to Wellington yesterday from a visit to Nelson. At a meeting of the Wairarapa Caledonian Society on Saturday, Mr B. R. Rayner was elected a vicepresident and Mr E. McEwen a director of the society. The friends of Mr John Murray, of the Bank of New Zealand, Masterton, will regret to hear that he is at present an inmate of the Masterton Hospital. Tho stationmaster at Masterton (Mr Smith) is at present on his annual leave of three weeks. During his absenc Mr Wilson will be relieving stationmaster.

.Mr Russell, of the Greytown staff of the Bank of New Zealand, has been promoted to a position at the Shannon branch. He will be succeeded by Mr Murphy, from Pahiatua.
