I>r Cleary, Roman Catholic Bishop' of Auckland, has been nominated, Coadjutor-Archbishop of Adelaide. A very old resident of the West Coast, in the person of Mr Frederick McLean, died at Ahaura this week, at the ripe of age of 82 years. Mr Peter Eadie, representative of the N.Z. Fanner, was in Masterton yesterday, and contributed a couple oi much-appreciated items at the Caledonian Society's concert last night. His Lordship Bishop Sprott, who will perform the "consecration service in connection with the new Anglican Church, arrives in Masterton to-day. The Rev. H. S. Woolcombe, who visited Masterton a year or two back in connection with the Church of England Men's Society, has been appointed vicar of a parish of 18,00(J people in the City of Leeds. At a meeting in JPalmerston North last night of the .North Island: Brass Band Association, Liet. Bentley, of New South Wales, was appointed musical judge for the Auckland exhibition band contest.
Mr and Mrs O'Reilly, who left Carterton six- or seven months ago on a visit to the Old Country, returned on Thursday evening after a very pleasant trip. Miss M. Prendeville, who has been staying with her aunt, Mrs J. Modaghan, for the past month, left Carterton yesterday morning for Eketa* huna on a visit to her brother, Mr J. Prendeville.
The Very Archdeacon Fancourt, and the Reve. A. H. Colville (New Plymouth), C. F. Askew (Wellington) F. G. Rosher (Palmerston North) and A. M. Johnson (Wellington), will take part in the special services in connection with St. Matthew's Church, Masterton ,next week. . The London Daily Express states that General Sir lan Hamilton" will probably be appointed Commander-in-Chief in India <in succession to General Sir O'Moore Creahg) when the post of Inspector-General of the Overseas >Forces {which Sir lan has held since 1910) is abandoned. Mr Arthur Sawyer, the young wireless operator, who kept a lonely vigil*at Macquarie Island for twentytwo months, as part of the Maweon Antarctic expedition, has been spending a brief holiday with his parents in Gisborne. Mr Sawyer left for Sydney oh Wednesday, and the Gisborne Times states that he may return with the relief party in December.
Another of the few remaining pioneers in the person* of Mr George Stafford Styles passed away at Wei* lington Hospital on Thursday evening in his 69th year. Deceased was born at Nelson, and as a member of the No. 1 Company Wellington Hangers, took part as a young man in the Maori war, for which he held the medal. ..,--
