FARMING NOTES.
PIGS AND GRAIN
The feeding of pigs came . *°* mention at tho Kaupokonui Dairy Company's meeting. An experienced farmer said he would like to see everybody top off pigs with grain. He said that those who did not know would be surprised to know the marvellous results attained by two weeks feeding otf oa gram. ARGENTINE AM) MEAT SUPPLY! Hopeful anticipations for the. frozen meat industry, .especially as regard mutton and lamb, were voiced by Mr E. A. Campbell, chairman of directors, at the annual meeting of the Wanganui Meat,, Freezing Co.. Ho remarked that the Argentine competition was declining. He stated that not only was the Argentine export ot mutton and lamb lees this year than in the past, but the number of sheep in the country had decreased by thirty millions during the past few years. On the other hand, the Argentine export of beef had increased, and, from all reports, the i country was more fitted for cattle than sheep. A few markets that would probably be available in the near future was the United States. Representatives from that country were already making inquiries here and m Australia. He did not thintk that much New" Zealand meat would go to the States, but if, as was probable, the American meat duties were taken otf, a large amount of Argentine meat that now went to Great Britain would go to the States, and that would relieve the Home market of much Argentine competition, and be of great benefit to New Zealand. Incidentally he remarked that sheep were decreasing in numbers in most parts of the world, and only New Zealand and South" Africa were holding their own last year.
