Messrs Gray Bros., of the Taratahi, have left on a visit to the West . Coast. The death occurred at Aotea, FortyMile Bush, yesterday, of Mr Niels Pedersen, at the age of 67 years. Captain William Harris, a wellknown and respected old resident of Gisborne, died on Wednesday last. It is rumoured in Wellington that Captain Seddon intends resigning his command in the New Zealand forces. The friends of Mr R. Russell, of Masterton, will regret to hear that Mrs Russell is somewhat seriously ill. Pastor Swinerd, of Masterton, has gone to Feilding for an Endeavour 'rally in connection with the Baptist Church. One of Wairoa's oldest residents, in the person of Mr P. Johnson, died on Saturday last at the age of seventy-seven years. ;The death occurred in Palmerston North yesterday of Mrs Elizabeth Kendall, mother of Mr Frank Kendall, a Welt-known resident of that township. iShe was seventy-seven years of age. Messrs D. Henry and- W. Newton, well known in Wellington amateur theatrical circles, were amongst those present at the final performance of "The Geisha" in the Masterton Town Hall last evening. Mr William Allan, a member of the Wellington Education Board, who has been spending a few days ih the Gladstone district, was in Masterton yesterday. He leaves for Wellington to-day. Miss E. F. Anderson, who has severed her connection with the Mastertdn branch of C. Smith. Ltd., to take up a position in kelson, has been presented _by the employees of the local firm with a handsome solid silver" manicure set. Mr John Cartledge Botham of Tua Marina, died ctn Monday, aged 83. He came to New Zealand 55 years ago with his wife, landing at Dunedin (says the Marlborough Express). His j wife predeceased him some eight years I ago; two sons and three daughters survive. Mr J. Trevor Thomas 1 , who has been in charge of the Land Department of the Ashburton branch of the New Zealand Farmers* Coi-operative Association for the last four years, has been appointed' manager of the Hawke's Bay business of Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., with headquarters at Hastings. The death occurred at Carterton yesterday of Miss Nellie Telford, daughter of Mrs Telford, a very old identity of the Wairarapa. The deceased, who had been ailing for some time, was a sister to Mrs R'. C. Drummond, of Lamsdowne, Masterton. The late Mass Telford was in ! business in Napier for some time. A Press Association telegram from Dunedin records the death in his ninety-first year, of Captain William 111omson, a very identity. At one time deceased was harbourmaster under the Provincial Government for all ports in Otago and subsequently was harbourmaster for Otago harbour. He was closely identified with the Presbyterian Church. The death is announced of MiGeorge Selbie, a well-known resident of Claremont, South Canterbury. • Mr Selbie was born at Churnside. in Berwickshire, Scotland,, on September 14th, 1837. He landed an Lyttelton in 1862 in the Queen of the Mersey, and started his career in New Zealand as a shepherd for Mr Cracroft Wilson, of Rangitata Station.
