AMATEUR ATHLETICS.

. WAIRARAPA CLUB'S REPORT. The annual report to be presented at the annual meeting of the W.A.A.0., which will be held in Murray's Hall on Wednesday, September 24th, at 8 p.m., states that the statement of accounts discloses a very satisfactory fmaacjal position, and the club is to on its solid during the past season, the membership having in-, creased to 122 financial members. Donors.—The thanks of the club are due to the fallowing for donations and "trophies:—Messrs A. P. Whatman, R. F. R. Beetham, H. H. Beetham, A. D. Gillies, J. Georgeson, J. Coradine, H. Crass, A. Henderson, D. Caselberg, W. B. Chennells, S. A. 'NobleCampbell, G R. Sykes, Dr Archer Hosking, Randel Welch, C. E. Daniell, L. S. Nicol, D. K. Logan, D. Walsh and J. L. Murray. Evening Meetings.—During the past season fifteen evening meetings were held. These meetings are much appreciated by both the public and ;iiy> competitors, they being the means fipipjiieeping runners in good form right the season. Trophies valat £9 6s were presented for events won at these meetings, and £8 4s was re ."reived in nominations. The points prifce competed for resulted as follows: —R. Messenger, 53 points, lsj.R. McKenzie, 44 points, 2nd; J. Bradbury, 38 points, 3rd. Annual Sports.—The club's annual sports were held on the Park Oval on Boxing Day, December 26th, 1912. Record entries were received for,the meeting; .which was a great success, both from a competitor's and spectator's point of view. Wairarapa Caledonian Society:— The thanks of the club are due to the Wairarapa Caledonian Society for having placed on their programme on New Year's Day a* splendid programme of amateur events. It is pleasing to note that these events are fully appreciated by competitors, over one hundred entries having been received for the same.

Wellington Provincial ships.'—The-dub was represented at this meeting by a strong team, consisting of R. Messenger, R. McKenzie, J. Bradbury, G. Harvey, L. Crass, M. B. IgguWen, A. C. Williams, R. S. Rowe, and L. E. "Cooke. The team is to be congratulated for the sterling performance it put up, only being beaten by one point for the McVilly Shield. J. Bradbury was successful in winning the 880 yards j and oftg wHe championships, and R; I MoKenzie the 440 yard: * uA - h PP.' ' step and jump championshipsr As 1 a result of performances put up at this meeting, R. MeKenzie, G. Harvey, J<. Bradbury, A. Messenger and L. E. Cooke were selected to represent the Wellington province at the New Zealand Championships. I Country Club Championships.— These were held for the first time in Palmerston North under the control of the Manawatu A.A.C." Our club is to be congratulated on securing possession of the shield for the first year. The following competitors represented the club, and points were scored as follows :—R. McKenzie 10£, R. Messenger 7, E. E. .Fisher 7, A. C . Williams 6, J. Bradbury 6, M V B. Iggulden 2, A. L. Tressider, J. R. Perston, C. La Roche; total '3BJ points. Visit of American Athletes.—lt is expected that during the coming season a visit will be, made to New Zealand and Australia by a team of American athletes. , The names of those likely to form the party contain ithose of themost foremost- exponents of America, and as a visit will most likely be arranged for Masterton, it will be a notable one in connection with out sport, exceeding in importance any previous enterprise of the nature undertaken, v The club suffered a severe loss in the departure from -vMasterton of its President, Mr S. H. Snell. The hearty thanks of the club are due to Mr Snell for his untiring efforts on behalf of the club's welfare. During the year twelve committee meetings were held, which were attended as follows:—W. T>ickson 12, J". Bradbury 11, & H; Snell 10, R. McKenziaglO, A. Long 10, M. h. Iggulden 9,* P. Gilbert 9 1# J.
