'Mrs C. Bennett, of Lansdowne, and Mrs' Fenton, of Bannister Street, have gone to Wellington for a few days to meet Mrs George Keene, who is arriving from England to-day.

Miss Young, of Mauriceville, is the guest of Miss Sellar.

A most enjoyable dance was given by the bachelors on Monday night in the Exchange Hall. The bail-room was decorated with green foliage, mauve paper flowers and mauve shades to the lights, while the supper tables were beautifully done with spring flowers in tall specimen glass*es. The hostesses were Mrs Lewis, wearing an old rose satin gown, with black lace overdress; Mrs Collie, black crepe de chine, with black lace; Mrs C. Bennett, old rose satin, with steelcoloured overdress; Mrs Fenton, white satin, trimmed with point lace. The committee were Messrs L. Caselberg, N. Cameron, C. Osmond and D. Mackersey. Mrs • Ormoncf Cooper, of Essex Street, leaves for a month's holiday in Nelson to-day, ,and Mrs Broad, who has been staying with her, is going to Blenheim.

Miss. Ma'idsley, of Wellington, is spending a few days in Masterton on her way to Napier.

Mr and Mrs H. Hume, of Lansdolwne, are on'a visit to Christchurch.

Miss who has severed her connection with the Greytown branch of the W.FiC.A., was the recipient of a' handsome gift from the employees of the firm. Pinhey has returned to the Wairarapa from her visit to Wellington! The footballers of Taueru and Brancepeth gave a plain and fancy dress ball at the Taiieru Hall on Friday, September 12th. -The gathering was an undoubted success. The hall was; crowded, in fact too much to be. altogether pleasant fo? The footballers have reason'to be proud of their success.' The music was .excellently rendered, and the supper sPas well catered;' for: Most of\ the dresses worn " were well got up! Among those that deserve special mention are Miss V. Duffy, Stars and Stripes; Miss- R. Hudson, Gipsy; Miss I. McKenzie, Fotrget-me-not; Miss L. Loader, Billiards; Mrs J, Horton, Indian Squaw; Mrs W. Percy, Japanese; Miss F. Burling,, Spring; Miss M. Scott, Waitress; Miss Devereaux, Sailor Girl; Miss H. Haeata, Maori Bille; Miss R. Burling, Cherry Ripe; Mias Ruby Burling, Brittania; Miss L. Hill, Scraps. Among the gents," Mr Horton (Druid) and Mr R. Andrews (Maori Chief) deserve-special mention. Others were: Mr Hudson, Cook; T. Pickett, Highlander; C. Hill, Fireman; AV. Te Tail, Mexican Cowboy. • Dancing commenced at 8 p.m., and was kept up till 3.30 a.m. All went home thoroughly satisfied with.their night's enjoyment.
