GENERAL NEWS.
THE NEWEST DANCE. The Duchess of Manchester has introduced to London society a new American dance entitled the "fishwalk." She has been giving a num.- ! her of "dancing teas," at which the new dance was explained and exemplified. It is described as follows by its inventor, Mr Uriel Danvis: "To do the 'fish-walk' properly you must practice skipping upstairs, then adopt that same skipping step on the ballroom floor, doing it forward eight counts and reverse eight counts. Then do the. sliding step to the side twice as fast as in the 'one-step' for four counts. Continue 'with the skipping step as before." OAR TO FIT THE HAT. The necessity for builders of motor cars to take into consideration the vagaries of feminine fashion has been established by a French court. The Count de Kergolay recently bought a closed motor car intended for the use of his ; wife when shopping and paying calls. When the countess came to use it, however, it was found that the roof was not sufficiently high to clear the long upright plumes which are now being worn in women's hats. Every time, that she or her friends used the car the plumes in their hats suffered dam"" age.' The count, therefore, brought an action to obtain either a cancellation of the sale or an order for th« builders to supply a new body. The judge, before whom the ""Case was tried, ruled that it is the duty of the builder in supplying the car to take into account the fact that long plumes are now being worn. He granted" the count a rebate of £4O on the price of the car.
