CHINA AND JAPAN.

CABLE NEWS

(UniUd Prm Auoeiatio*—B» P«* trie Ttinmvk—O oftnifM.)

FORMER'S DEMAND ACCEPTED. LEASE OF PORT ARTHUR. (Received Sept. 15, 9 a.m.) PEKTN, Sept. 14. China has accepted Japan's demands in connection with the murder of Japanese at Nanking. The demands were agreed to en bloc. It is understood that the demands include a fifty years' extension of the lease of Port Arthur, which expires in 1923. It is anticipated that even though China has perforce yielded, some incident will inevitably occur facilitating an expansionist programme, including the military occupation of Foochow and Amoy, treaty ports in the province of Amoy, and the introduction into those zones of set-called "Manchurian methods." [•Japan demanded an apoldgy for the insults to the Japanese at Hankow and Shantung and the murders at Nanking, punishment of the guilty, and an indemnity, to be fixed later. It was added that unless China complied with the demands immediately, Japan would take such action as it might deem necessary.}

FEELING RUNNING HIGH

AGAINST JAPANESE.

(Received Last Night, 11.85 o'clock.) PEKING, Sept. 15.

Though the Government agrees with Japan's terms, it is doubtful if it will be able to compel General Chaghsean to march the troops past the Japanese Consul as a mark of sorrow at the Nanking happenings.

Feeling continues to ran very high against the Japanese.
