AMUSEMENTS.

TOWN HALL. PICTURES. There was another crowdod house st the Masterton Town Hall last night, to witness the splendid series of pictures in which the Panama Canal played an important part. The canal film will be shown to-night for positively the last time. It will be supported by a very strong programme of dramatic and topical items. "When John brought home his wife" is a Lubin drama containing much incident and romance. It is the story of the matrimonial exploits of one John Robins. "St Valentine's Day" is a Pathe comic which creates no end of fun, while "Giving Him Fits" is a veritable "screacher." . The Cines drama "The Keeper of the Secret" is quite above the average, pourtraying as it does a phase Continental history that is particularly interesting. "Folidor and the Witches" is a comic that helps to. make one of the most attractive programmes that have ever been produced in Masterton. The management of the Picture and Entertainment Company is deserving of the very highest praise for the manner in which it is catering for the public. A special programme is being prepared for to-morrow night, on the occasion of the flower show. >

THOMPSON-PAYNE PICTURE!

"THE HOUSE OF MYSTERY." Many celebrities ■ of the world are at present engaged in writing stories for "the pictures." Amongst, the leading writers and dramatists wfro have turned their attention to the photo-play is .the Marchioness Town- : send. This talented lady has earnedgreat distinction in England for the adaptability which she has displayed in this direction. The first drama by the Marchioness to be screened in. the Dominion is "The House *of Mystery," which will be-seen as the star attraction in to-night's new programme at the Thompson-Payne picture theatre. ''The House of Mystery" strikes a, ngw idea in pictorial drama. It is away from the orthodox, and thin is a very welcome feature in a line with a tendency tv sameness and repetition. There is a sequence of dramatic incidents, and thrills contained in the plot> which is cleverly haridler. The production of the picture was undertaken by the Clarendon Co., who are probably the leading producers in England tc-day. The film is characterised by elaborate and realistic staging and effects, .while the photographic guaMty leav|s nothing, to' be desired.• It : is; expected. ,:i ] .House o£ Mystery"' should prove a big draw. The popular Solax Coy. will prosont an excellent feature in their production of .'Roads that lead Home" which gives a pathetic and realistic view of happenings in life. •'A Child's Influence" is an excellent Imp. drama stowing the power »oP a. chold's love. The Western element will be present in ""the Kalem production entitled "The Kentucky Giry" which should prove a popular number... Two interesting topicals will be shown in "The Warwick Chronicle" 'and "Eclair journal." A clever animal comedy will ibe given in-the Clarendon film of "A Cunning Canine." Numerous comedies include "A Helping Hand," "All Apple Pie/' and "The Rival Champions." This is an excellent all-round programme and should meet with good support.

"THE GEISHA/'

The story of "The Geisha" must not be told here, it would spoil the' delight of hearing" it as everyone intends to'do on Tuesday, the 16th inst in the Town Hall. Reader© must take our word for it that it ! is bright, good, and full of fun. In'the humorous work of course Mr Harry Hall, as Wun-Hi is the right man. His funny broken English expressions together with his interpretation of The part will . cause abundance of laughter. The Middy has not v.ery much to say but by his gestures and "escapades can make a deal of fun. Seats for the season, which ppens in jthe Town Hall on Tuesday night next may be reserved at the Dresden.
