Mr Robert Cameron, of Maariceville, has been elected patron of the ' Mauriceville Rifle Club. B A monument is to be erected at P* Napier to the memory of the late Mr G. H. Swim, a fonner Mayor of- that town. News has been received in Carter- - ton of the serious illness in the Hamilton Hospital of Mr W. Hart, who was formerly a resident of Dalefield. At a meeting of the Masterton Competitions. Society last evening a hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr W. Gillespie, the retiring Secretary, on Ibho motion*of Mr H. F. Green. I Mr H. J. Cassin, who has been,stationed at the Masterton Post Office for the last five years, has received notice of transfer to Hastings, for for which township he leaves on Mon- . day next. A JStasterton resident has received W~: n letter from the Rev Dean MoKenna P. from Killarney, Ireland. The Dean stated that he and his brother, Father 'T. McKenna, were on a motoring tour through Ireland when the letter ' left, and both were eafjoying splendid Another of the rapidly-diminishing company of early Auckland colonists passed away on* Thursday in the person of Mrs Olphert, mother of the Rev J. Olphert, Rocky Nook. The deceased, who reached the age of eighty-eight, had been a resident of Auckland for fifty-three years. At Dannevirke on Friday last, the. marriage of Mr T. W. Bradley, formerly of Parkvale, to JUiss G. Madden, of Carterton, was .solemnised. The young couple are spending their ■-"• honeymoon in Napier, their >.|. return will reside at Raumati, where jjf' Mr Bradley is employed by.the Raumati Co-operative Dairy Company. Mr Allen Boyd, a very old and respected identity, died at his residence at North Taieri on Thursday last, in his 90th year. Deceased, with his brother John arrived here from Argylshire, Scotland, in the ship Mooltan on Christmas Day, 1849, and very shortly afterwards took up his residence in the North Taieri, A picture of a house built by them in 1852 is to be seen in the Early Settlers' Hall. On going to the North Taieri the two brothers entered into partnership with the late Mr John Hyde Harris (ex-Superintendent of Otago) in a sheep run. They later purchased Mr Harris's interest in Hindon Station, and held it until it was taken for settlement. They also bought Rockland r Station, which they held until quite . recently. They were two hard-work-ing, enterprising men and the most hospitable of people. John died •* few years ago, also aged about 90. Another brother (Alexander) passed away at Hindon about 12 months ago, when close on 100 years. They were a long-lived family.
