When the tea plant is about three years old, the leaves are ready for picking. The labourers are dually Tamils from Southern India, and each carries a large basket supported by a strap across the forehead. Only the small young shoots of the tea plant including the third and fourth leaf oii the buds are picked. Fine tea like Amber Tips is made from the bud at the top of the shoot and the two small leaves just below it. The finest leaf of the best Ceylon plantations goes into Amber Tips Tea.
