SOCIAL NEWS AND FASHIONS.

Mr and Mrs C. F. Vallance, of Kahumingi, are at present visiting Wellington.

A weckiiug of much interest in the district was celebrated on Tuesday, August 26th, at St. Michael's Church, Stanway, when Miss Constance Wheeler, daughter of Mr Wheeler, of Feilding, was married to Mr Herbert Hill, eldest son of Mr and Mrs Walter Hill, of Avonside, Christchurch.

The engagement has been announced of Mr Sidney Brandon, of Waipukurau, to Miss Dominica Brown, of the nursing staff of the Waipukurau hospital.

A very pretty wedding was solemnised in Wellington on Tuesday last, when Miss Catherine Olive Kay, daughter of Mr George Kay, of Cheviot, Canterbury, was married to Mr Conrad Davis Crispin, son of the late Mr F. J. Crispin, of Marlborough. The Rev. G. Knowles-Smith was the officiating clergyman.

Mrs Lane, who has been a resident of Masterton for a number of years, ■left yesterday for Gisborlie, in which township she intends entering business.

Miss Constance Margaret Easthope has been appointed deputy-registrar of births, deaths, and 'marriages at Masterton.

Miss Gladys Jean Dawson, daughter of Mr. Joseph Dawson, the wellknown bridge contractor of the FortyMile Bush, was married on Wednesday last to Mr Norman Henry Judd, of Pongaroa. Miss Josephine Daw(son (sister of the bride) acted as | bridesmaid, and Mr F. Webster as best man.

At Whakataki this week, Mr R. R. Henderson, of Dunbar, Scotland, was united in matrimony to Miss Annie Williams, eldest daughter of the late Dr Williams, of Liverpool. The ceremony was performed by the Rev Hands, of Tinui. The bridesmaids were the Misses Gladys and Connie Williams, sisters of the bride. The ■bride wore a blue cloth costume, and the bridesmaids unredressed in pale bine and pale pink. Mr Robert Williams acted as best man.
