Mr James Wylie, a well-known Rotorua footballer,, has accepted a two-years', engagement as football coach to an American University. He leaves for San Prancisco by the Willochra next week. The death is recorded of Mrs Duncan, relict of 1 Mr Join Duncan, of South Hokitika, aged 78 years. Deceased was a sterling old pioneer of the Coast. Mr Townley isknbwn as Gisborne'a * 'grand old man. " . Mr George Morrison, who died at Dunedin on Monday last, was one of Otago's early settlers, having arrived in the Cheviot in 1862. He was a builder and contractor by ;tra(te, and constructed .several dredges at Lawrence. Latterly he was an inspector of buildings. Like so many other hai'dy pioneers, he was of a retiring disposition. Mrs A. T. Yates, „relict of the late Mr A, T. Yates, died at New Plymouth on Tuesday morning. The deceased lady, who was born at Plymouth, England, in 1835, married in 1853 and sailed for Melbourne the same' year, whence with her husband, she proceeded to Ballarat during the height of the gold fever, the journey taking three days to accomplish on foot. She-arrived in -Hew Plymouth in 1856, and has resided in the district ever since. During the war troubles in the early sixties she was one of those who refused to quit the town at the instance of the military authoritiesT The death took place at Auckland, on August 27th, of Mr, Bichard Cameron, father of Mr OaTtieron, manager of-t&e Eketahuna branch of the Bank of New South Wales, iand formerly of Masterton. In 1864 the deceased gentleman joined the, Auckland Savings Bank and in 1875 he was appointed manager of the institution. About twelve years ago he retired from the position owing to"' failing health, though, on account of his lengthy and valuable services, he was appointed inspector of securities, which position he held up till the time of his death. Mr Cameron, who practically spent tE6 whole of his life in New Zealand, was ever looked upon as a man of the .strictest commercial integrity. He is survived by a large family. As a result of the upsetting of a gig on Wednesday, Mrs Holds worth, who was driving from Kaiparoro to Eketahuna, broke a small bone in the arm. She was conveyed to Eketahuna, where she received medical attention. • Mr Maurice O'Connor, the wellknown Holstein breeder of the Pahiatua district, who recently disposed of his farm to Mr Hawley Drew, was on Tuesday evening entertained at the Commercial Hotel by a large number of friends, and presented with a handsome shaving set and a. set of military hair brushes.
