ANOTHER BANK.
Some people pretend to find great satisfaction in the contemplation of another banking institution putting up its sign in the Dominion. These people are probably not aware that the banks operate on common lines, and that the public deiives very little if any advantage from the multiplicity of such institutions. So far as the Dominion itself is concerned, there 'is no reason why any Bank should not be allowed to commence operations, provided it is an institution of financial standing, although some may argue that as the State is interested in a certain Bank it should not permit competition which might affect its own security. The fact that the Commercial Bank is extending its operations to New Zealand, is evidence that the country! is regarded aa a safe and sound field for investments. For that reason, if for no other, we should welcome the Commercial Bank to, our midst.
