Our Own Correspondent. The annual meeting of the Wairarapa Horticultural and industrial bociety was hold on Monday afternoon, Mr A. Booth, president, in, tho chair. Feeling reference was made by the chairman to the demise of Mr Jas. Brown, a former secretary and ar-j dent supporter of the society, and. the meeting passed a vote of condolence \ with the family of the deceased; j The treasurer's statement showed a credit balance of £3l 2s 9d. It was decided to hold a spring show on Saturday, November 29th. Sir W. C. Buchanan, M.P., was elected patron, anid "Mr A. Booth president. Messrs W. Howard Booth, T. E. Maunsell, H. R. Bunny, J. O. Gates, B. Trapp, and A. King were elected vice-presidents. A strong ladies committee was appointed with Mr W. Tucker as secretary and treasurer. A Chines© market garden is being established at Ahiakouka. i Tho vital statistics for Carterton for the month of August were: Births 15, deaths 4, marriages nil. The annual meeting of .the mombers of the Taratahi-Carterton Racing .Club was held on Saturday afternoon, Mr H. R. Bunny, president, presiding over a fair attendance. The annual report and balance-sheet were read, disclosing a very satisfactory position, the club's overdraft having been reduced since last meeting. Officers were elected as under: Patron, Sir Walter Muchanan, M.P.; president', Mr 11. H.. 'Bmuiy.; vi:» presidents, Messrs H. Judd and H. H. , Wolters j treasurer, Mr, S. «C. Skelley • auditors, Messrs R...J. Chapman and Jv ' Moncfieff; stewards, Messrs W. Howard Booth, A.' Daysh; H. MePhee, -C. Reid, F. T. Playle;\ J. G. Oates and T. Ray. It was de-? cided t'o forward' last year's pro: gramme to tho hahdicapper for any suggested alterations which would popularise the fixture. Mr W. O. Deller was elected a member of the club. A very hearty vote of was accord" Mr J. B. Bairstow, the club's secretary. At a meeting of the Wairarapa South County Council on Saturday, the overseer was instructed to . prepare an estimate of metal required for repairing the Masterton-Carter-ton main road, tenders to ite. called for same, and dealt with at the next meeting of the council. In the meantime the worst places to be patched.
