PARLIAMENTARY VISITORS.
RECEPTION AT WELLINGTON. PATRIOTIC SPEECHES, . (By Tdegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Last Night. The main body of the British Par-' lia,-.nentary party which is visitingNew Zealand, arrived in .Wellington from the north by special train this afternoon. They were immediately driven to the Town Hall, where the Mayor (Mr J. P. Luke) welcomed them on behalf of the citizens. He said he had one regret, and that that their stay Would'.' 1)e far too short. Anything that could be done hy com- . munication would, he assured them, be readily done. In the name of the city, and on behalf of the Wellington City Council, he extended to the ladies and gentlemen of the party a right royal welcome. After thanking the Mayor for his hearty welcome, Sir E. Hildreth Carlile said the party would have liked to have seen something of the s South Island. ~ They were interested in watching our methods, and they bad marked with the deepest gratitude and the greatest appreciation the great contributions we had made towards Imperial defence. That, indeed, was a fine act, and illustrated that we desired to have a hand in that great-undertaking, apart from which, in these days, the Great British Empire could not maintain her prestige,' her position, or even her Mr A. W. Black, Mr Will Crooks, and Lord Emmott also spoke briefly. The Hon. H. D. Bell said he was certain that by the time the party left the Commonwealth they would be able to carry to \he Mother Country the news that people who had oome here, though tlxey had changed their skies, had not altered their sense of loyalty and of unity. This evening the members of the party were the gpests of honour at a reception at Government House. Tomorrow they will be entertained at luncheon at Bellamys. j"
