THE WRECKED DEVON.
HULL STILL INTACT. SHIP'S PAf%RS SAVED. 1 < (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON,' Last Night. There is no further sign of the wrecked steamer Devon breaking up. The hull still seems to be intact, while I the decks are high above water. Today "Captain Cauno© and practically the whole of the Devon?® cre\£, pro-, i ceed to the scene of the wreck in the small steamer Karaka, but as there was too much swell at the heads to permit of a boat lowered in an, * attempt t,o board the Devon, the party ' landed half ' a -nile inside the heads', - and walked along-the beach. . By means of a basket, the second officer * and chief stewaxckwere hoisted on to the deck of the Devon, and they (secured the ship's papers. It was found impossible to obtain any further effects, and the party returned to town. They will go out again, to-morrow-morning.
