TEN LAWYERS ENGAGED. j ( SOMETHING IN RESERVE. 'Times' — 'Sydney Sun' Special Cables. (Received August 26, 8.30 a.m.) [ QUEBEC, August 25. Thaw has engaged ten lawyers to defend him. It is rumoured that the lawyers have something in reserve to prevent his deportation after the habeas corpus proceedings on Wednesday next. It is reported that the Canadian Government will deport Thaw to Vermont or New Hampshire, and that Thaw is likely to choose the former \ place. The New York authorities are preparing for Thaw's extradition. Thaw is showing arroganee, and not exhibiting the sense of responsibility displayed by him during previous trials. His lawyers threaten to, abandon the case unless he alters his demeanour. Thompson, the chauffeur, is still in gaol, being unablo to finrljiail He says he did not receive a, cent for driving froii the Matteawan Home for Insane Criminals. He adds that he would like to squeal, but does not dare to do so. Thaw's lawyers are intensely worried over Thompson's implied threat, and are promising him anything if he will, hoi I his t.tngno Butler, the ringleader in Thaw's escape, received £SOOO, but has not yet paid three confederates , who threaten to expose everything. / Thaw is holding a levee in his cell all' day. Many women are sending him flowers.
