DANtNEVIRKE RACING CLUB. , Nominations for all handicap events to be decided at the Dannevirke Racing Club's Spring meeting, which takes place on September 10th, close with the secretary, Mr Robert Takle, this Monday evening, August~2sth, at 9 p.m.
Miss Vena (Boris —Foreshore) has gone into W; Garrett's stable for future prepaartion. The Opaki trainer has also-taken in hand a two-year-old gelding by Maniapoto—Merrie Chimes (Merrie England—Blue Bell), to which he will impart the preliminary" education, after which the youngster will be returned to his Masterton' owner.
A Ohristchurch Press Association telegram states that training operations at Riccartom yesterday morning were somewhat marred by two regrettable accidents. While schooling over the steeplechase country the agedi gelding Fair Deal fell heavily, and broke his neck. His rider, S. Murfitt sustained a broken collarbone as the result of his faH. .'.The other accident happened to iR. Murfitt, an apprentice in R. . Longley's stable. He was riding a gelding by Somniform—Culverin when, his mount bolted off the course. Going past Cutt's the gelding came down and gave-Murfitt a bad shaking, but it is not anticipated that the injuries are serious. Wanganui nominations close tonight. J. Phillips has just taken in hand a six-year-old gelding by Merrie England—Sweet Oil (by Petroleum). The newcomer is somewhat in the rough at present, but looks like one that wjll come to hand quickly.
