CHESS.
TELEGRAPHIC MATCH. A telegraphic chess hatch between teams representing the Hamis§/k and Masterton Clubs took place on Saturday might. The local club was not represented at, its full strength; but, nevertheless, managed to Becure a decisive advantage. The final result, however, cannot be announced until the adjudicators make their awards in the unfinished games. The following statement will give an idea of the results of the games, the Masterton players in each instance being mentioned first:— ■ F. Kummer v.SMcCrea: This game is unfinished but Kummer has,, a decided advantage. J. Dagg beat- Mears. G. A. Jones v. Bullock: In this unfinished game Jones is a knight and pawn to the good. S. W. Moore v. Bargh: The position in this game is very even, with a turn perhaps in favour of Moore. W. Kummer v. Stevens: Kummer has a decided advantage in position. D. Guild v. Worsley: A very uneven unfinished game. K. Welch beat Going. T. J. Thomas lost to Lock. From this it can be gathered that Masterton' has scored §£ points to Hamilton's 2£, and has retrieved the laurels lost to Hamilton some weeks ago.
The telegraphic arrangements at Masterton were carried! out by Mr Moore, of the local Post Office, and Mr Jackson, the operator, gave every satisfaction, receiving at the close a vote of thanks for his courtesy and attention.
Mr Kemball Welch, the Masterton Chess Club's secretary, to whom the highly satisfactory local arrangements wero due, deserves the thanks of the Masterton players.
