NAVAL DEFENCE.
SUGGESTED RECIPROCAL SYSTEM. Times' —'Sydney Sun' Special Cable*. (Received August 22, 8.30 a.m.) LAHORE, August 21. The Civil and Military Gazette urges a reciprocal system of naval defence for the Eastern Dependencies and self-governing Dominions, in order to safeguard the sea trade, and also to reinforce tho Egyptian and Indian garrisons, and provide against the new naval factors that have arisen in the Pacific.
FURTHER. PARTICULARS. (Received August 22, 9 a.m.) DELHI, August 21. The civil and military gazette, Lahore, in a i&eries of artioles xxrges that the Indian Ocean dependencies should supply the nucleus of an Eastern defence system, consisting of a fleet and an expeditionary force to co-operate with the Dominions to secure naval concentration where needed, safeguard seaborne, trade, and supply reinforcements for Egypt and India, besides providing against new naval factors that have arisen in the Pacific. -
