SUSPECTED CASE AT PORANGA- " hae. - J ;; FUMIGATION OF MAILS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Last Night. In the House of Representatives this afternoon, the Hon. H. R. Rhodes, Minister of Public Health,stated that a suspected case of smallpox had been reported from Porangahau, Hawke's Bay. The case and contacts had been isolated. -The suspect was a Native girl. The Health Department was doing all that was nesessary to prevent contacts from travelling. The fumigation of mails was a very difficult matter, and could not be effectually carried out unless all letters' were opened. PROCLAMATION ISSUED. LIMITrNG MOVEMENTS OF MAORIS. WELLINGTON, Last Night. A proclamation has been gazetted, with the intention of still further limiting the travelling of Maoris, and their intermingling with passengers on the railways. Tho proclamation includes half-caste Maoris. It is to appl|y only to tKose persons in the Auckland Health District, and to •Maoris and half-caste Maoris from that district travelling to other places in New Zealand. By this means it is hoped to more or less oonfine the Maoris to those localities in which the disease of small-pox is at present prevalent, so as- to prevent them carrying infection to Maoris in other parts of the Dominion. - LAST NIGHT'S BULLETIN, "WELLINGTON. Last Night. The following small-pox bulletin was "J Deputy-Chief Health Officer "The District QflCeVJ^ Auckland (Dr Monk) reports that n6 fresh cases have been reported in Auckland since yesterday's report. "A supected case is reported at Birkenhead. "Four fresh cases are reported at Kaikohe. "A proclamation under the hand of the Chief Health Officer, further restricting the travelling of Maoris, will be published in tomorrow's Gazette." IN AUSTRALIA. A FOOTBALLER ATTACKED (Received this morning 12.45 o'clock.) SYDNEY, August 13.
