Our' Otvn Correspondent. "The local railway station presented a busy scene on Saturday morning, which was evidence of the prosperity of tlio district. A .of local tradesmen's delivery carts were engaged in receiving merchandise, while several farmers' turn-outs were being loaded with agricultural manures. In another portion of the yards" three waggons were being loaded with a boiler and hauUng machinery, and at the northern end of the yards, three large waggons of straw were being unloaded on to railway trucks for despatch, - ; The Carterton Golf dub held their annual ball on Friday evening, when there was a large attendance from all parts of the district. The hall was very nicely decorated, and an excellent supper was provided by ladies of the Olub. . From every point of view the gathering was a huge success. - _ > : Mr It. Franks, who had the misfortune to ( fracture his collar-bone on Sunday of last week, through being thrown out of a gig, the result of the horse slipping on a bridge, is mak\ ing satisfactory progress towards recovery. A miniature rifle club is being formed in Carterton, under the auspices of the local Oddfcllo. r;' Lodge. Practice will be held in the gymnasium building.
