REVENUE AND EXPENDITURE.
The Opposition newspapers aire virtuously indignant at the fact that while the revenue during the first year of the Reform Government's administration shows an increase of £701,473, the expenditure shows an increase of £741,669. - No consideration whatever ia paid to the fact that during the year several new Departments came 4nto operation. Nor .are the figures for the last year of the Ward Government's ireign taken into account. In that year the revenue increased by £735,263, and the expenditure by £997,363. So that, allowing for the dost of the elections, the increase/in expenditure of the-Ward Government was. considerably greater than the increase under Reform. It is well, when Opposition papers delve into that they should remember that financial statements were brought down before the Reform Government came into power.
