Archaeologists are greatly interested at the discoverj of several old tombs under Bruges Cathedral (says a correspondent of the Evening Standard). The discovery was made while excavating to arrange for central heating, and it is believed that the whole base of the Cathedral so 1 well known to visitors is full of these tombs. Those found date from the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, and though lh& inscriptions have disappeared, the tombs are believed to be those of notabilities of the {jeriod. They are well preserved, the foot being towards the East. In addition to portions of wood coffins in no way worm-eaten, some rare old silver coins have come to light, and the walls of the tombs reveal- some interesting polychromatic paintings. Several of these are perfect, and the ! designs will reproduced.
