NORTH v. SOUTH. A trial representative match was played on th© Carterton showgrounds on Saturday, when a team picked from both Gladstone and Red Stars, representing North Wairarapa, defeated South Wairarapa (Carterton and United) by 11 pointe to 8, after only a moderate exhibition of football. The North team was superior in tho forward division and excelled in loose forward rushes, Hodge, Clarko and Don Ross showing to advantage. Ball, Strang, and Bourke played well in the backs. Of the South team McKenzie, Tait, and Seivers were the most prominent. For the winners Sid Dixon, D. Thompson and N. Cameron scored, tho latter try being converted by Hodge. A. Desmond scored for South and Seivers potted a goal. Mr E. McKenzie refereed the game. JUNIOR TRIAL MATCH. A North and South Wairarapa junior trial match was played on No. 2 ground, but two full teams did not take the (field. Mr W. Waterson controlled the game, and subsequently selected the junior representative team to meet Whareama, Bush districts and Hawke's Bay. THIRD CLASS. At Grey town Martinborough defeated Red Star by three points to nil. i The game was even throughout and was a very good exhibition of football. Mr A. Miller was referee. THE LEAGUE GAME. AUCKLAND, Last Night. The Northern Umion cup match, Auckland v. Nelson, was played at Victoria Park on Saturday last. Heavy rain fell all day and the ground was tinder water in many places. Nelson, especially in the forwards, put up a great fight, but the weather militated against scientific football. In the first spell Blakey and Ifwerson scored tries for Auckland, Well converting, and Taylor kicked a penalty goal for the visitorsc, the first spell ending Auckland 8, Nelson 2. Nelson were attacking for most of the second spell, but in the last five minutes Auckland broke througH their defence, and Ifwerson 'and Asher scored— Webb converting one. The final score wag: Auckland 16; Nelson 2.
