THE SMALL-POX OUTBREAK
♦ SIXTY-THREE CASES IN AUCKLAND. FURTHER CASES REPORTED. (By Telegraph — Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Last Night. Two Maori patients from Waiaheke 'lsland were brought to Auckland yesterday, suffering fro-n the prevailing epidemic, and were sent to the isolation hospital. This brings the total in the. hospital to sixty-three, including fifteen Europeans. A suspicious case was notified to the Health Department from Remuera, the patient being a male European, aged about 20. It wa-d quite oertain that nothing like a fifth part of tho total population in Auckland were yet protected by vaccdjia#on. Wires fro-ai the oountry indicate three fresh oases at Marigapehi (King. Oountry), and two at Tairoß, ftf the same district, A oase of a European has been reported from Temapara, fear Te Kuiti but otherwise the epidemic is said to he coming under effective control. The Chief Health Officer (Dr Valintine) has advised that he will reach Auckland on Monday morning, to confer, trith, the District Health Officer and repre<jentatives of the hospital in connection- with the epidemic.
