WAIRARAPA EAST.
■GEOLOGICAL SURVEY TO BE MADE'., The Hon W. Fraser- (Sinister for Public Works and Mines) baa directed Mr Morgan, the head of the Geological Department, to visit and report upon the geology of Wairarapa North, 1 to the east, of a line drawn* from Masterton along the Euketoi Range to Dannevirke. He will visit various coal outcrops, and the natural gas springs, and the oil-bearing rocks, and the oil bores at Mangaone and Weber In view of the mineral possibilities of this iarea, this visit should prove of great importance. A knowledge of the district is of the utmost value before the exact route of the East Coast railway is filial]v determined on. At the well being bored for oil in North Puketoi natural gag, cattghfc. from a natural gas spring is burnt, and helps to drive oil-boaing machinery . It constitute 75 per cent of the fuel used, and is, of course, a valuable economy .—Dominion . ' ' fl\. '
