TEN SHILLING TOTALISATOR TICKETS..
(To the Editor)
Sir,—A suggestion was made i&t a meeting of the Matsterton Racing Club, that the ten shilling tote should be abolished at future meetings. Wi}l the Club take the people into their confidence, and tell them the reason why? The late winter meeting at Trentham was the most successful the Olub has had for some yearg past. The ten shilling tote was strongly in evidence, and was largely patronised. The silver bettor is equally a-s good a sport as the man who can afford to bet in tens and twenties. I say, make no distinction between' these two classes. Give them both a fair and square deal, according to their means. After the Prohibitionist has carried Dominion Prohibition, the Anti-Gambling League will be pestering the Government with their claims for abolition of. horseraaing, and it is quite possible that in a few years' time-neither the Masterton or other clubs need bother their heads at all whether they intend to use a pound or ten shilling tote. The Gaming Bill, lam sorry to say, is not having too good a hearing in the House.—l am, eto., F. BAHNETT. Masterton, July 29,1913.
