A NEW LEASE OF LIFE. NINETEEN FRESH OASES. (Received Last Night 5.5 o'clock.) SYDNEY. July 27. The small-pox epidemic has received a new lease of life. fresh cases were reported yesterday In the metropo'itaa area. It is now stated that the failure of the New Zealand lymph was due to its being too pure, and is accounted for by chloroform being blown through it too long during its manufacture. A STOWAWAY AFFECTED. TWO COMPANIONS AMESTED. (Received Last Night 5.5 o'clock.) SYDNEY, July 26. Regarding the Newcastle case, tha police state that the patient arrived as a stowaway, with-five others, from New Zealand on July. 14th. They were made to work their passages, and were released on their arrival five days afterwards. The patient was reported at th» hospital, and was found with smalledpox. Two companions of his have ' been traced and arrested on charge* ~ of vagrancy. ■' \ \.' .„ A TURN FOR THE WORSE. OUTBREAK VIRULENT. (Received this morning 12.40 o'clock.) SYDNEY, July 27. Dr Patton declares that the smallpox outbreak has taken a.decided turn for the worse. Saturday's cases show that it is becoming more virulent. Vaccination, he says, is th» only safeguard, and he appeals to alt to undergo the operation. Everyone unvaccinated is a danger to himself, and a serious menace to the rommunify. FURTHER OASES. (Received this morning 12.40 o'clock.) SYDNEY, July 27. Additional" small-pox cases were reported to-day, making a total of 35ft under treatment.
