THE GAMING ACT.
The Gaming Amendment Bill to be in* troduoed by Mr T. M. Wiliford has been circulated. It provides' that instead of a maximum number of racing days for wliioh permits to use the totalisator may be grafted, "the issue of such lioensee shall be so regulated tihat the licensee issued in any one year will, as far as can be arranged, be available upon not more than 250 specific days of the year." As race meetings in several large centres are commonly held on the game day, the effect of* Mr Wilford's Bill will be to increase the number of racing days. Mr Wilford proposes that in allotting the extra totalisator licenses, preferences shall be given (without prejudioe to the renewals of existing licences) to the claims of 'those country racing Club® and trotting clubs whose licenses were npt renewed, or the number of days covered by the licenses were reduced, in accordance with the report of the Racing Commiraairtn. After tihese clubs have been provided for, he suggests that the Minister for Internal Affairs may grant/licenses to hunt clubs, but not more than ten in any one year. Mr Wilford's Bill appears to meet the position in a much more satisfactory way than the Bill introduced by Mr Qv Hunter, and for tlhat . ..wason we would euggest that the member for Waipawa withdraw ..his Bill in favour, of that of the ■member for .the Hut*.
