CROSS-COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP.
THE NOMINATIONS. Great interest is being evinced in the Wellington Provincial Cross-Coun-try Championship, which takes place in Masterton on Saturday afternoon next. The course is five miles long, and will commence from the old showgrounds at 3 o'clock, the route extending in the direction of Manaia. Some idea of the importance of the, race may be gained from the fact that sixty competitors are to take part in the event. The trophies and medals for competition were on view yesterday in, the windows of Messrs ,). L. Murray, Ltd., and were the centre or a. good deal of attraction. Tiny include the Shield, which is hold by the winning team for twelve months, and is now the property of the Masterton Harriers. The three handsome gold medals are for the winning team, and a special gold medal is for the of the race. In ibis connection it is worthy of mention that the order for the manufacture of the medals o' 1 view was placer] with Mr A. Henderson, of Masterton, and they reflect great credit on his manufacturing and engraving department. For the Sealed Handicap handsome trophies have been presented by Messrs S. E. Kingston, J.
