Mr S. Johnson, ■of Palmerston North, arrived in Carterton on- Tuesday afternoon, and to-day will judge at the local poultry show. The'death is announced from Akaroa of Mr F. Narby, father of Mr A. A. Narby, of Masterton, at the £ge of 84 years. , ,
Miss Emily O'Hara, eldest daughter of Mr David O'Hara, of Masterton, was married on Monday to Mr Ernest Join Wiug, of this town, and formerly of InvercargilL A Wellington Press Association' wire states that Nurse Charlotte Matthews (of Masterton), and Nurse Ada Whitta (of Wairarapa), have passed the State: nursesr' examination. Mr Albert Myers, touring ; -manager for George Marlow's Dramatic Company, Has arrived in Masterton to make arrangements for the forthcoming production; of "The Night Side of London," which takes place on Thursday, July 31st v ;■>. : ' The deafti occurred at Hawera on Saturday of Mr James Williamson, at the advanced age of 76 years. The deceased {was well-known on [the coast, particularly in the Hawera, Kakaramea, and Patea districts. Mr S. B. Dodge (borough engineer at Te Kuiti) has been appointed borough engineer at Hastings from 34 applicants. Mr P. R. Purser (tpvm, Clerk at' Lower Hutt) has been apI pointed to a similar* position at Has- ; tings from 57 applicants. . M. S. E. Kingston, of Masterton", yesterday received a telegram from Ashburton, announcing the death of Mr W. F. Simpson, the noted athlete. "Simmy," as he was popularly called, held the three-anile Australasian "record (14min 49sec), which he pui up about twelve years ago, and which has never been broken. A few years ago he went to England, and met' with great success- in, the athr jetic world. He was the founder of the South Canterbury Harriers, and at the time of; his death was only 44 years of age. Mr Peter H. Robertson', journalist, formerly of Wellington, and who, of recent years, was a member both of the .Auckland Star's and Herald's literary staffs, died on Sunday night. Mr Robertson had been suffering from lung trouble for several months, and his decease was not unexpected. A Press Association telegram from 'Dannevirke' states that Mr C. Hall, ex-member for "Waipawa, .was presented by Liberal supporters on Tues* day evening with plirse of sovereigns and an addresviri recognition of his services to the party during tihe past twenty-four years. Several members of the Opposition were present.
