BOXING.

The New Zealand Boxing Council has sanctioned the championship match between Barney Ireland (mid-dle-weight champion) and Denny Murphy (welter , champion), which is to eventuate at Masterton on the 30th irist. The winner secures the title of middle-weight champion of New' Zealand, in addition to the purse presented by the Masterton Boxing Club. Ringside critics declare the match to be an exceptionally good one, and that it should be brimful of interest all the way. Good reports have been received by the local secretary from each of the contestant's training quarters, and both men promise to strip as fit as the proverbial fiddle. A good amateur programme has also been arranged for the first half of the evening's sport.
