THOMPSON-PAYNE PICTURES. "STOLEN JEWELS." A large anil enthusiastic audience witnessed the second screening of the current programme at the T.P. Electric Theatre last evening, when members of the Hawke's Bay t and Wairarapa football teams vfere present. The main feature ] of the bill was a big detective drama entitled "Stolen Jewels," which received well merited applause. The story is weird and exciting. It is one of those thrilling detective stories, which are such favourites in current literature. The story discloses how the young secretary to Sir AVilliam de Dandrel is tempted to embezzle a large sum of money. In the end, and desperate at finding he can conceal his theft no longer, he decides to steal certain of the family jewels. Then again he is confronted with the difficulty of turning suspicion off himself. He is reminded of a coming ball. He is directed to give Lady Dandrel's necklace and ruby bracelet, jewels of fabulous wealth, to the maid. He proceeds to very cleverly direct suspicion from himself. ' Accidents, however, Happen in the best of arrange- ' merits and a tiny clue finally leads to his betrayal. A fine dramatic ture will be shown in "The Higher Duty," the Lubin Company's latest effort. "Parso'i and Medicine Man" ie an excsllent Western by • the Imp Company, whilst "His First Patient" is a humorous drama by the Nordisk Company. The remainder of the programme consists of a good varietv. some of which are "A Drop of. Water," "The Magician." "Sammy's Acrobatic Feats," "Who Did the Deed," "Photographer Out of a 'Job," and "Gheledi." The usual matine? will be given at 2.30 p.m. lon Saturday. For Saturday's change the management announce the screening of "When Lee Surrenders," a vivid and realistic portrayal of this srent event in America's early histnrv.
