SENSATION IN AUCKLAND.

ALLEGED ROBBERY WITH VIOLENCE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Last Night. .Something of a sensation was caus- j ed at tho corner of Pitt Street and j Karangahapo Road at. about II o'clock tins morning, when a cj'y for help came from a man as he rushed out of a boarding-house. Tho nwn was in a state of great excitement, and his face was smothered in iblood. He declared that he had 'been robbed of .£IOO by two men, and indicated the direction" in which the men had decamped. The police were immediately communicated with, and to Detective HoTlis tho man subsequently told his story. His name, he said, was John King, and he had recently come from Wellington. At the boarding-house he had made the acquaint nice of two men, and yesterday, when a remittance of £lO reached him from Wellington, these ■men were aware of the fact. During the day they obtained a snwll loan from him, and this morning they approached him for a further advance, which he declined, whereupon they assaulted him. He was violently attacked by th< two men, who almost beat him to insensibility, and then robbed him of his money. King was attended by Dr Coldicutt, who, after dressing several wounds about his face, ordered his removal to tho hospital. The police have the matter in hand.
