BULGARIANS HEMMED IN. SURROUNDED BY THE CREEKS. A REPORTED SURRENDER. (Received Last Night, 9.40 o'clock.) ATHENS, July 11. After the fight at Doiran, the Bulgarians took up a position in the Belissi passes, on the main road to Strimnitza, with the object of preventing the Greeks from joining the Servians, who were driving the Bulgarians fourth army back fro mlslib. The Greeks, after desperate bayonet assaults, dislodged the Bulgarians, and pursued them to Strimnitza, capturing nine guns. The Greeks also opened an attack on the Bulgarians' extreme left wing, near Demirihissar. A severe fight for the possession of a railway bridge over the Struma ended in a Greek victory. The force operating northward cut off the Bulgarians' remaining retreat, and hemmed in General Ivanoff, with 50,000 Bulgarians. A Sedan victory is imminent. A number of unconfirmed rumours have reached here that General Ivanoff has surrendered. BULGARIA APPEALS TO RUSSIA. VIEWS OF CONTINENTAL • DIPLOMATISTS. (Received Last Night, 9.35 o'clock.) LONDON, July 11. The Foreign Office has not been advised of the Bulgarians appeal to Russia, but Continental advices confirm it. Continental diplomatic circles regard the appeal as an indication of diplomacy at Sofia and not that the Bulgarian army has lost .the game. M. Daneff's downfall is predicted as a result of his countering with the Czar's peace proposals. French diplomatists forsee thai while Russia's acceptance of Bulgaria's appeal makes for peace in the Balkans, it is less reassuring in regard to the European balance for it will produce counteraction on the part of Austria, which has consistently been rebuffed throughout. Viennese quarters regard the appeal as' indicating the complete failure of the .Russopliile policy. M. Daneff, it is claimed, sacrificed military necessities to political considerations in rejecting M. Savoff's plan of campaign. Bulgaria is likely to be deprived of a large share of the fruits of tlio Turkish war. It is understood that Servia is prepared to reply that she is ready to cease hostilities on condition that the ante-war treaty is voided. She will keep all the Macedonian territory she at present . occupies, while Greece will demand all the" territory acquired during the war.
