Mr Harold Brown, a son of Mr Richard Brown," is at present on a visit to Mastertqn. Adamson were tendered a vapaictory social in the Nireaha Public Hall on Wednesday evening, at which there was a large attendance of local residents and visitors. ' Mr David Ogilvy, late manager of T. J. Joll's eheese factories at Okaiawa, Taranaki, has been appointed manager of the Nireaha cheese factory, out of 43 applicants. The members of the Eketahuna Brass Band on Wednesday evening tendered M* J. Prentice a smoke concert in the Oddfellows' Hall, prior to his leaving the district for Carterton. At the Unity Congress yesterday, Mr Edward Tregear was elected president of the Social-Democratic Party, Mr W. T. Mills general organiser, and Mr P. Fraser secretary and treasurer. Captain Hewitt, R.N., for many years a resident of Palmerston North, died suddenly yesterday. He was the possessor of a Baltic medal, and has taken a prominent part for many years in Anglican Synod matters. He has also been an earnest promoter of scientific research, besides being a philantrophist.—Press Association. Amongst the visiting brethren at the Oddfellows' social in Masterton this week was P.O. Bro. A. Bish, who was the founder of the lodge in Masterton, and the first N.G. of the Loyal Masterton Lodge. P.G. Bro. Bish waa loudly cheered when he responded to a welcome, lodge members expressing the wish that the first N.G. should visit them again in the near future.
