WELLINGTON CHAMBER OF COM--4 MERCE RESOLUTION.
Mr'"Coleman Phillips spoke at the Wellington. Chamber of Commerce meeting on Monday afternoon on the subject of the projected East Coast raihvav. •After hearing Mr Phillips, Mr A. E. Mabin, president of the Chamber, said it wns 'without doubt essential to the progress of the city to openup the district referr.d to. The Chamber was not prepared,to pin its faith to any particular, scheme just now, hut it "was prepared to 1 lend any aid it could.in accomplishing the main. purpose'," which the people- of the districts concerned had in. view. Qn b;lialf .'of.. Mr J- Macintosh he mpved^r- . That a sub-committee of, the ,' Council consisting of the president, vice-president (Mr C. W. Jones), Messrs W. G. Duthie and J. Macintosh be set up to co-operate with the Masterton Chamber rf Commerce and other local bodies in the Wairarapa and other affected districts . . . with. a view to arriving at a conclusion whereby joint and concerted action ca:: quickly be takai to- remove the .disabilities under w!»ich the dis- • trlcts mentioned how hi Vow Avith regard to railway communication. Mr Mabin said he thought MiMacintosh probably had it in mind that it might be necessary to go to Parliament this session asking for the appointment of a committee of experts to decide upon the route. The motion was. seconded by Mr F. W. Manton and carried.
