Mr George Fogden', only'surviving son of Mr/and Mrs. Robert Fogden, formerly of\ Mastertori and hunay died at Petone on -Monday at the age of twenty-four years. • • ; Mr R. H. Skipwitjh, who is.;-well-known in Masterton and else.where asa sporting* scribe, is lying seriously ill in a private hospital in WeJlmgton.
The death occurred in Woodville on Sunday of an old and respected resident the person of Mr William Martin. He was seventy years of a S e v Mr H. 0. Ramsden is leaving'Maitinborough shortly for the Foxtoit district, where he intends following farming pursuits. Mr J. B. Foss, who has , been teacher at the Mangapnkeha school for some ti-ne, has received the appointment of assistant teacher, at the Levin school. Miss M. Brown, of Eketahuna, has been appointed assistant mistress at Levin. . A Melbourne cable announces the death of the Rev. Mr Williams, President of the General Conference of the Methodist Church of Australia. Mr Harold Montgomery, /agent at Sydney for the New Zealand Government, died yesterday from syncope, following an attack of influenza. Miss Hayward, matron of the Masterton Hospital, Who has been indisposed of late, has- been granted a month's leave of absence by the Hospital Board. She leaves for Westport on Saturday nextl During her absence, Sister Wilkinson will be acting-matron at the hospital. A pleasing little ceremony took place at the Oddfellow'* social in Masterton on Monday evening, when Bro. J. Dixon was presented by Bro. C. Perry, on behalf of the Lodge, with a Past Grand jewel, and by the members with a silver teapot, .sugar basin, and cream jug, suitably inscribed. The latter presentation was made as a token <rf appreciation of the many valuable services rendered to the lodge by Bro. Dixon.
